New Delhi [India], June 4: PM Modi will inaugurate a major green and urban renewal campaign on June 5, 2025, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts towards sustainable development on World Environment Day. The agenda for the day includes the inauguration of a tree plantation drive as part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and the flag-off of 200 electric buses in the country’s capital.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also plant a Banyan sapling at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, New Delhi, at about 10:15 AM. The event, powerfully symbolic and deeply rooted in culture, will also directly add to the larger Aravalli Green Wall Project, a pioneering ecological restoration program designed to revive India’s oldest mountain range.

Building India’s Green Spine: The Aravalli Green Wall

The Aravalli Green Wall Project spans a 700-kilometre ambitious extent, covering a 5 km wide buffer zone in 29 districts of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The project aims to address land degradation, enhance green cover, and restore the ecological balance of the Aravalli ecosystem through afforestation, reforestation, and the restoration of water bodies.

Through the enhancement of soil fertility, increased groundwater levels, and enhanced resilience to climate change, the program is likely a pillar supporting India’s mission to combat desertification in the western plains. It also focuses on people’s participation, generating employment opportunities through eco-jobs and encouraging partnerships at the local level with the environment.

The involvement of the Prime Minister is likely to draw national attention to the importance of ecological balance and sustainable environmental action. His participation encourages the culture of “Sabka Prayas”, a united resolve toward sustainable development.

Promoting Green Mobility: 200 E-Buses for Delhi

In a parallel push for clean urban mobility, PM Modi will also flag off 200 electric buses under the Delhi Government’s sustainable transport program. This initiative is part of a larger push to transform Delhi’s public transport into a zero-emission, technologically advanced network, aligning with India’s broader climate targets.

These new electric buses will serve as a green infrastructure model for metropolitan cities. Built for efficiency, accessibility, and environmental sustainability, the fleet is likely to minimise vehicular emissions, reduce air pollution, and be a scalable model for other Indian cities.

The twin emphasis on reforestation and electrification demonstrates the government’s integrated approach to meeting the net-zero emissions goal by 2070. This pledge positions India at the forefront of global climate action.

PM Modi | Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: A Campaign of Heart and Heritage

The Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, literally ‘A Tree in the Name of Mother,’ encourages every Indian to plant a tree dedicated to their mother, combining ecological activism with emotional appeal.

By attaching a personal value to every plantation, the campaign hopes to activate millions in a grassroots green initiative. The event is not only a ceremonial function by the Prime Minister but also a call to action for all citizens, recalling India’s ancient traditions of living in harmony with the environment. Environmentalists have welcomed the move as both an emotionally appealing and ecologically prudent initiative, especially in light of India’s increasing urban presence and the need to reclaim natural spaces, which is imperative and urgent.

A Unified Step Towards a Sustainable Future

As a duo, the tree plantation and electric bus projects are about to celebrate World Environment Day 2025 with symbolic importance. They are a concrete guarantee of sustainability, social participation, and visionary urban development.

They are also part of larger national strategies, such as the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) and the Green India Mission, aimed at creating a future where growth and protection march hand in hand.

The action reminds us of how the collective habits, including tree planting, adopting clean transport, and preserving nature, can influence the fate of a country.

Looking Ahead

With PM Modi at the helm of this twin-fold green mission, India is well-positioned to convert symbolic action into sustained environmental change. As citizens, corporates, and communities unite behind these initiatives, World Environment Day 2025 might just be remembered as a turning point in the country’s environmental history.
